Tremblant Turtle

June 21, 2011

Turtle thumb1 180x180 Tremblant Turtle I was driving my car on Chemin du Lac Mercier going to visit a property when I saw this huge turtle on the side of the road.

The weather this week has been incredible and really warm and this thing was just sitting there in the sun right on the street.  I passed it going pretty fast when I slammed on the breaks just to make sure I was seeing correctly. I have been up here for 11 years now and I never saw one this big and supposedly there are tons of them.

I wanted to move it out of the way because the cars drive pretty fast on that street and I was worried it wasn’t going to make it across.  We tried picking it up but it lunged at us with its huge mouth and nearly gave me a heat attack.   At this point there was an old lady who lived right there who was willing to give us a shovel and some guy who stopped his car and seemed to know how to handle this thing.  He even seemed to know where it had to go to lay its eggs.  All to say that he made it across safely and headed towards a swamp.  It was really a nice looking turtle.

Hey Deanna, I saw one too while running in Arundel last week, I had never seen a turtle that big in the area.

    • Since I put up this story, it seems a lot of people have spotted them around Tremblant. They are really nice.
