As the highest peak in the Laurentian Mountains, Mont-Tremblant towers majestically over a land of winding rivers, immense lakes and lush green forests and in the winter it is packed with snow.
Boasting a summit elevation of 875 metres (2870 ft), an average snowfall of 382 cm (149 in) a year and over 95 ski trails, Tremblant resort is the largest in the region. It has been recognized by Ski Magazine as the #1 ski resort in Eastern North America for 8 consecutive years.
I do believe that visiting Tremblant during the winter and not going for a run down the hill is a sin. The main resort has more than 600 acres (2.4 km2) of ski and snowboarding trails in four distinct areas: North Side (Versant Nord), South Side (Versant Sud), Sunny Side (Versant Soleil) and The Edge (Versant Edge).
The mountain is divided in 3 parts, 17% beginner trails with 16 designated runs, 33% intermediate with 31 trails and 50% expert with 10 trails. This means there is no excuse for not going. I have included a large trail map at the bottom of this post for both sides of the mountain.
If you can’t ski, Tremblant has a great ski school where you can have private lessons if you want and you can rent all the gear you need, from high performance skis to winter suits. You can start on the magic carpet no matter what age and we do see older people still giving it a go. If you are worried just start your ski day on the Nansen, its 6km long and you should be more advanced than when you started.
The mountain also features 18 acres (7.2 ha) of ramps, rails, jumps and a halfpipe.
Tremblant has a total of 3 snowboard/ski Parks to play in. Please note that the helmet is now mandatory for all snow park users.
The resort features:
• High-speed 4-passenger chairlifts : 5
• 4-passenger chairlifts: 1
• 3-passenger chairlifts: 2
• Gondolas: 2
• Magic Carpet: 3
• Cabriolet: 1
The total lift capacity is 27,230 skiers per hour.
Aside from the big holidays when the hill can get quite crowded, the weekdays are always better. After January 4th I would say there is an overall lull in the occupancy levels. This is a great time to come and take advantage of the non existing line ups.
Those of you who prefer to cross country ski, the summer bike trail becomes a great trail in the winter time. There is over 290km of trails throughout the Laurentian landscape. The Place St.Bernard is an excellent place to go; you can stop and feed the birds that come right up into your hand.
If you are planning a vacation in Tremblant during the winter make sure you pack the right gear to hit the slopes.
